Assembly Guide for BIKEGG Electric Tricycles
Your BIKEGG electric tricycle ships partially assembled to protect it during transit. We have done as much of the assembly work as possible at our fulfillment center — because we know many of our customers are not looking for a build project. They just want to get outside and ride.
Most customers complete the remaining setup in 30 to 60 minutes using basic household tools. No specialized mechanical knowledge is required. Everything you need is included in the box.
If at any point you get stuck, do not force anything. Contact us at support@bikegg.com or request an assembly video walkthrough for your specific model — we are happy to help.
What Comes Pre-Assembled
The following components are fully assembled at our fulfillment center before your trike ships. You do not need to do anything with these:
- Main frame and rear axle
- Rear wheel and drivetrain
- Motor and battery connections
- Rear brake cable routing
This means the heaviest and most technical work is already done. What remains is attaching a small number of components that cannot safely ship pre-assembled.
What You Will Need to Attach
Upon unboxing, you will need to attach and adjust the following:
- Front wheel
- Handlebars and stem
- Seat post and saddle
- Front basket (if included)
- Pedals — note that the left pedal has reverse threading (turn clockwise to loosen, counter-clockwise to tighten)
- Front brake cable connection and tension adjustment
- LCD display mount and cable connection
All required tools are included in the box. You will find them in a labeled bag inside the packaging. You will not need to source any additional tools for standard assembly.
A full printed instruction manual is included with your trike. The manual contains model-specific diagrams, torque specifications, and step-by-step instructions with photos. Please follow the manual for your specific model — the steps below are a general overview only.
Before You Start
1. Get a second person to help with unboxing. Electric tricycles are heavy — the packaged unit can weigh 80 to 100 lbs depending on the model. We strongly recommend having a second person help you move the box and tip the trike upright. Do not attempt to lift the box alone.
2. Check for shipping damage before assembling. Before discarding the packaging, inspect all components for any visible damage. If anything looks bent, cracked, or broken, contact us at support@bikegg.com within 48 hours and include photos. Do not attempt to assemble or ride a damaged unit.
3. Lay out all parts first. Open the accessory bag and compare the contents against the parts list in your printed manual. Contact us before proceeding if anything is missing.
4. Read the manual for your specific model. Component placement and torque values vary by model. The general steps below are a guide — your printed manual is the definitive reference.
Step-by-Step Assembly Overview
The steps below give you a general overview of the process. Detailed model-specific instructions with diagrams are in the printed manual inside your box.
Step 1 — Attach the front wheel. Insert the front fork into the wheel dropouts and secure with the included axle nuts. Ensure both sides are tightened evenly. Refer to your manual for the correct torque specification.
Step 2 — Install the handlebars. Slide the handlebar stem into the front fork steerer tube. Align straight ahead and tighten the stem clamp bolt to the torque specified in your manual (typically 8 to 10 Nm). Do not overtighten.
Step 3 — Attach the seat post and saddle. Insert the seat post to the minimum insertion mark — do not insert below this line. Set your preferred height and tighten the seat clamp. The seat height should allow a slight bend in your knee at the bottom of the pedal stroke. A comfortable seat height makes a significant difference for riders with knee or hip concerns.
Step 4 — Install the pedals. The right pedal is marked R and threads clockwise. The left pedal is marked L and threads counter-clockwise — turn it the opposite direction to tighten. Hand-tighten first, then use a 15mm wrench to snug them down. Loose pedals are a safety hazard — make sure both are fully tightened.
Step 5 — Connect and adjust the front brake. Thread the front brake cable through the lever and housing, connect to the caliper, and adjust tension so the brake engages firmly before the lever reaches the handlebar. Squeeze both brake levers before your first ride to confirm they hold. This is one of the most important safety steps — do not skip it.
Step 6 — Connect the LCD display. Plug the display cable connector into the matching port on the handlebar unit. Ensure the connector clicks or locks into place.
Step 7 — Attach the front basket (if included). Use the included hardware to mount the basket bracket to the front fork or handlebar. Do not exceed the basket's rated load capacity, typically 15 to 20 lbs.
Pre-Ride Safety Check
Before your first ride, go through every item on this checklist. Do not ride until all items are confirmed.
- Both brake levers engage firmly and the trike stops reliably
- Handlebars are straight and the stem bolt is fully tightened
- Pedals are tight with no wobble when you push down on them
- Seat post is above the minimum insertion line
- Tires are inflated to the pressure printed on the tire sidewall
- Battery is charged and seated securely in its mount
- All electrical connectors are fully plugged in
- LCD display powers on and shows battery level
Do not ride until all of the above are confirmed.
Tips for First-Time Trike Riders
If you have not ridden a trike before, the handling feels different from a two-wheel bike — and that surprises many new riders. A few things to know before your first ride:
- Trikes do not lean into turns the way bikes do. Slow down before a turn, not during it.
- Start with the pedal assist on the lowest setting (Level 1) and work up gradually.
- Practice in a quiet parking lot or flat open area before riding on streets or bike paths.
- The trike is stable at a stop — you do not need to put your feet down.
- Most riders feel fully comfortable within one or two short practice sessions.
